Twitter has permanently suspended Donald Trump after siege at Capitol that took 5 lives

 Twitter has permanently suspended Donald Trump's account two days after the siege at the Capitol that led to the death of five people and a few hours after he tweeted that he will not be attending Biden's inauguration.

 Twitter explained why they took the decision in a statement they released a few hours ago.

"After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them — specifically how they are being received and interpreted on and off Twitter — we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence,” the company said.

 A close check of Trump’s page, with 88m followers, shows no posts at all.

 Yesterday, Facebook and Instagram also banned him from their platforms. 

Insurrection: Capitol Police officer Killed after being hit in head with fire extinguisher during DC riots

 

Brian D. Sicknick said to be US Capitol Police officer, has been killed from injuries he sustained after reportedly being struck and hit in the head with a fire extinguisher during Wednesday’s riot in the US Capital.

 

The USCP has confirmed the death of Their own officer Brian Sicknick on Thursday January the 7, after he succumbed to severe injuries.

It was further learnt that Sicknick joined the Capitol Police in July 2008.  Four other people were fatally injured in the mayhem in Washington, D.C., where Pro-Trump supporters easily overtook police to gain entry into the Capitol building.

 

New York Post reported that over 50 officers with Capitol Police and the Metropolitan Police Department were injured during Wednesday January 6 riot in DC. 

 

The four other people who died in the insurrection have been identified as Ashli Babbitt, an Air Force vet, Kevin Greeson, 55, of Alabama, 50-year-old Benjamin Phillips of Pennsylvania, and 34-year-old Georgia resident Rosanne Boyland.

In her resignation letter to Trump dated Thursday, which CNN obtained a copy of, she calls the rioters’ behavior “unconscionable” and wrote, “There is no mistaking the impact your rhetoric had on the situation, and it is the inflection point for me.”

 

"Impressionable children are watching all of this, and they are learning from us," she added.

 

"I believe we each have a moral obligation to exercise good judgment and model the behavior we hope they would emulate. They must know from us that America is greater than what transpired yesterday."

 

She joins Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao who also resigned after taking “time to absorb” the insurrection on Capitol Hill and the President’s response to it. “Today, there was a lot of soul-searching and discussion,” a senior administration official said. “It was obviously the right thing to do.”

 

Resignations from the Trump administration started on Wednesday with first lady Melania Trump’s chief of staff, the White House social secretary, a deputy press secretary, and Trump’s deputy national security adviser all resigned after the Wednesday riots by the President supporters. 

 

Last night, Speaker of the House Rep., Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) called on Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove President Donald Trump over the Capitol Hill invasion.

Twitter has suspended Donald Trump's account following the storming of The Capitol by his supporters.

 

Trump shared a series of tweets and posted a video of himself Wednesday, Dec 6.

 

One tweet read, "These are the things and events that happen when a sacred landslide election victory is so unceremoniously & viciously stripped away from great patriots who have been badly & unfairly treated for so long. Go home with love & in peace. Remember this day forever!"

 

He also tweeted: "Mike Pence (US Vice President) didn't have the courage to do what should have been done to protect our country..."

 

 

His attack on Pence comes after the latter said he cannot change the electoral vote.

 

Twitter deleted both tweets along with several others shortly after Trump's message. The social media giant then announced Trump's account was suspended for at least 12 hours for repeated and severe violations of the company's Civic Integrity policy.

 

 

Twitter said Trump must permanently remove the deleted tweets after which he will then start a 12-hour suspension. If he does not remove them, his account will remain locked.

 

Twitter also said if Trump violates the rules again, it will lead to a permanent suspension of his account.

 

Facebook on the other hand, deleted Trump's posts and said he will not be able to post on Facebook or Instagram for the next 24 hours because his posts, on balance, contribute to “rather than diminishes the risk of ongoing violence,” Vice President of Integrity Guy Rosen said earlier Wednesday.

 

Facebook and Twitter have been following each other’s leads throughout the day: Twitter took down Trump’s tweets after Facebook did, and Facebook temporarily locked the president’s account after Twitter took similar action.

"Their fantasy narrative has spiraled further and further from reality, and it builds upon years of sown resentments. Now we’re seeing the consequences, whipped up into a violent crescendo," Obama said.

The victim named, Ashli Babbitt, was a “strong supporter” of President Trump who had served in the United States Air Force. 

 

“The woman is Ashli Babbitt, a 14-year veteran, who served four tours with the US Air Force,” San Diego TV station KUSI reported, citing the woman’s husband.

 

“She was a strong supporter of President Trump,” the report added, saying the woman was from the San Diego area in southern California.

Violence erupted as hundreds of protesters seeking to overturn Trump’s election loss swarmed the Capitol building in Washington to stop President-elect Joe Biden's certification. 

 

Washington, DC, Police Chief Robert Contee said the woman was shot by the US Capitol Police as the mob tried to break through a barricaded door in the Capitol where police were armed on the other side. She was hospitalized with a gunshot wound and later died.

TV channel Fox 5 reported Babbitt owned a business in San Diego with her husband, who did not come with her to Washington.

 

“I really don’t know why she decided to do this,” her mother-in-law reportedly told the station.

 

Babbitt identified herself as a veteran on her Twitter account. She had recently retweeted messages in support of Trump and from those coming to Washington for Wednesday’s rally.

 

“Nothing will stop us….they can try and try and try but the storm is here and it is descending upon DC in less than 24 hours….dark to light!”, she wrote in a tweet on Tuesday”
