Democrats Raphael Warnock makes history after winning Georgia Senate runoff

Rev Raphael Warnock has defeated Republican Senator Kelly Loeffler to become the next Democratic US senator from Georgia. 

 

The Senior Pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, a post once held by Martin Luther King Jr, was elected on Tuesday January 5 to be the first black Senator from Georgia. He is also the first Georgia Democrat elected to the senate in 20 years.

 

His election has been seen as a repudiation of the incumbent Republican, Senator Kelly Loeffler and her adherence to President Donald Trump
 

The runoff election was held after no Georgia senate candidate received 50% of the vote in November. The control of the US Senate now comes down to Republican David Perdue, who is running to keep his seat against Democrat Jon Ossoff.

 

Warnock ran on a platform of increased access to health care, expanding Medicaid, and protecting voting rights. He painted Loeffler, the richest member of Congress, as out of touch.

Fashola Blast Obasanjo over $12bn loan

Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has goddamned former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, for being part chargeable for the weak infrastructural base in African country.

Election Review Committee meets Obasanjo, Jonathan, Babangida

Borno: APC chairman suspended for “gross maladministration”

 

The chairman, All Progressives Congress, APC, in Hawul Local Government Area, Alhaji Borno: APC chairman, has been suspended indefinitely.

The suspension came on Friday, following what the party executives described as gross maladministration by the chairman in conducting party affairs in the local government.

According to the party executives, who signed the petition and handed over to the state party chairman and secretary in Maiduguri, they have done their part to see that his conduct did not put the party into crises but as he was not forthcoming, they were left with no option than to suspend him from the party.

In a letter, which was signed by 27 executives of the party in the local government and made available to DAILY POST in Maiduguri, the party leadership said they met on Wednesday, September 23, 2020, and reviewed the conduct of the chairman as an act capable of embarrassing the party, hence took the decision to suspend him.

The letter reads:

“The offences are disobedience to party rules and regulations, where the chairman refuses to participate in the just-concluded party primaries for the forthcoming local government election, knowing well that the primaries were directive from the party secretariat as he along with some thugs attempted to sabotage the process.

“Use of thugs in trying to compel ward executives and other officers to align with his plan for mischief to cause confusion during the last party primaries for the forthcoming elections.

“Alhaji Auwal Mamman hired thugs to beat and manhandled the ward chairman of Shafts, Alhaji Mohammed Musa Yaro, Hon. Salifu Madu and others for refusing to go along with them.

“Mismanagement of party funds – Alhaji Auwal Mamman uses his privilege position to corner funds and their privileges meant for officials and members of the party for his personal use. The evidence of such acts was the use of the party fund to build a filling station for himself in Yimirshika in Haul local government.”

The party said although they have made several attempts to reach out to him over the allegations but he deliberately refused to honour all invitations, thus the resolve to suspend him as the party is superior to any individual in other to save the party from further embarrassment.

Adamawa: Sen Abbo’s supporter pledge loyalty to Gov Fintiri

                       

 Some key followers of Sen Ishaku Abbo of Adamawa North District have declared a shifting of loyalty to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.

Although, Abbo is in the same Peoples Democratic Party ((PDP) with the state governor, Abbo has been a critic of both the party and the governor, waging an unending battle against both.

In an action indicating disaffection against him by some within his own support base on Friday, however, many among his supporters visited Governor Fintiri, pledging their loyalty to him.

Members of the delegation to the Government House in Yola, led by Abbo Support Group’s former Coordinator, Peter Ishaya Kwache, told Fintiri that he now had their “complete shift of loyalty”.

Mr. Kwache said they were members of the PDP, who worked to ensure the success of all candidates of the party in the 2019 general election, particularly Abbo, but that they had for a while been at a loss about Abbo’s relentless criticism of the party and the government led by Fintiri.

He said Abbo never explained his rift with the governor and now the governor’s “development bandwagon” has attracted them.

Responding, Governor Fintiri said conflict is common in politics but time and purposeful leadership heal all wounds.

This would be the second time in eight days that supporters of Fintiri’s prominent critics would be visiting Fintiri and pledging loyalty to him.

Last week, September 17, some prominent executives of a faction of the PDP named Reformed PDP (R-PDP) went to Fintiri to renounce the faction and declare a return to the PDP.
