17-year-old girl who burnt her boyfriend to death remanded in court

 The magistrate court sitting in Makurdi, Benue state has remanded 17-year-old Esther Alex, who burnt her boyfriend, in Correctional Centre, Makurdi.

 

Recall that Chidinma Ikechukwu Omah, a patent medicine dealer, died after he was set ablaze by the accused in Wadata suburb of Makurdi. 

The case which came for mention, on Tuesday, January 19, has the First Information Report read to the accused. The FIR, titled,’ Mischief by Fire and Culpable Homicide’ read in parts;

 

"That one Esther Alex ‘F’ of no 1, Zaki Biam street, Wadata Makurdi went to the house of Mr Chidimma Omah ‘M’, 28 years old, at No 17, Yandev street, Makurdi and poured petrol in it while he was asleep and set him ablaze. 

 

"As a result, the room was engulfed in fire and burnt down the entire house property value not yet known together with Mr Chidimma Omah who sustained grave burns and subsequently died while receiving treatment at the hospital.”

 

The prosecutor, Inspector, Dominic Ochaba, asked that the accused be remanded in the correctional centre, Makurdi pending when the investigation into the matter is concluded.

 

Counsel to the accused, S.O. Obekpa, however, did not object to the prosecutor’s prayer but drew the attention of the court to the First Information Report.

 

"There is no objection to the prosecutor’s prayer but where and manner the fuel was kept," said Obekpa.
 

The lawyer, however, requested for oral application to be made in respect of the FIR but was declined by the magistrate.

 

The Magistrate, Regina Ochokwunu, however, ordered that the accused be remanded in the correctional centre and adjourned the case to March 5, 2021. 

House maid loses job for calling her boss a Yahoo boy

 A young Nigerian man has taken to Twitter to narrate how a lady he helped with a cleaning job branded him a fraudster.

The man simply known as Bisi, revealed that he contacted the lady through the phone to come over to clean his place, however as the conversation ended, unknown to her that he had not cut the call, she went on to make a statement that shocked him.

While the line was still open, someone at her end asked who called and she mentioned that it is the yahoo boy she works for, unfortunately for her, Bisi overheard her.

The young lad then revealed how disappointed he was to hear her tag him a yahoo boy considering how he has helped her with job, rent and food.

He disclosed that he would no longer be needing her services.

Taking to his Twitter account, @Biisi96 wrote;

 An Alleged chat between Captain Matthew Ekeinde, husband to Nollywood actress, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde and his side chick has surfaced on the internet.

The chat which was leaked by Gist lovers blog showed the duo gushing over each other and speaking on their plans to spoil themselves during their next reunion.

 Nigerian disc jockey, Catherine Obianuju Udeh, professionally referred to as DJ Switch has questioned actions of the Lagos state government.

The activist also spoke about the Lagos state environmental agency and their directive to auction off cars of drivers who committed one-way defaults.

Switch shared a video of herself speaking on her Instagram page, and asked questions on whether the citizens have allowed themselves to be completely gagged and silenced when it comes to fighting for what is right.

She said;

Omo! What is the matter? what is the matter with us? Why can’t we support each other. Why can we not support each other? 

There’s so much I want to talk about but it’s too much. Has the government successfully beaten us into silence because this silence is deafening. What is the problem?

Omotola Jalade Goes hot on popular blog over report of alleged affair with Oshomhole

 

Award-winning Nigerian actress, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, has taken to social media to call out popular Instagram blog, Gistlover for alleging in a report that she’s having an affair with the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomole.

Sharing a picture collage of Omotola and the politician, the controversial blog wrote;

Today is the sabbath day so we go keep am holy,we go just dey post pictures, maybe tomorrow when no be Holy day,we go give details,abi how una see am?i come in peace.”

Reacting, the popular actress lambasted the blog and said she has demanded proof of the authenticity of the allegation.

While advising people to disregard Gistlover’s post, Omotola warned that an answer would be required within 24 hours.

Odogwu: African Giant Burna boy To Feature in U.S. Presidential Inauguration Playlist

 

Multi award-winning Nigerian artiste, Damini ‘Burna Boy‘ Ogulu, has become a pace setter for other African musicians as a song from his ‘African Giant’ album will be featured in US President-elect, Joe Biden’s presidential inauguration playlist.

The musician’s single, ‘Destiny‘ off the African Giant project has been selected among the playlist to grace the historic American event.

According to online sources, the song made the cut for the almost 50-long list of songs to be used in the presidential swearing-in which will take place on the January 20, 2021.

The Inauguration playlist which is compiled by Issa Rae’s Raedio imprint, DJ D-Nice and the Presidential Inaugural Committee, comprises of 46 tracks, featuring Burna Boy, Kendrick Lamar, Beyoncé, SZA and a couple of other talented artistes.

Destiny is the number 13 track on Burna’s album, African Giant released in 2019. The album earned him a Grammy nomination in 2019/2020 under the ‘Best World Music’ category.

16-year-old female bandit arrested by police in Niger state, recover arms (photos)

 

The Niger State Police Command has killed a suspected armed bandit and arrested his 16-year-old female accomplice.

 

Spokesperson of the command, ASP Wsiu Abiodun, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, January 18, said the suspects were arrested with two locally fabricated revolver rifles in Mariga Local Government Area of the state.

 

 "On 13/01/2021 at about 1700hrs, a team of Police operatives/vigilante attached to Bangi division while on routine patrol along Bangi/Wamba road arrested two suspects; one Haruna SNU ‘m’ and Maryam Sani age 16yrs ‘f’ both of Magami village via Gussau Zamfara State with one unregistered Bajaj m/cycle, and two locally fabricated revolver rifles," said Abiodun.  

 

During interrogation, the said Haruna attempted to escape and was gunned down by the Police. The corpse was later deposited at general hospital Bangi, Mariga LGA.

civil servants to stay at home, bans viewing centres COVID-19: Kano government orders

 Civil servants in Kano state have been directed to work from home by the state government as part of measures to curb the second wave of the Coronavirus pandemic in the state.

 

The state Commissioner of Information, Malam Muhammad Garba who also announced that a fresh ban has been issued on the activities of viewing and event centres across the state, said they were part of decisions taken at a stakeholders meeting. 

 

Garba said; 

 

“Workers on essential services such as the healthcare service providers, fire service, water board, teaching staff, security guards and the media are exempted from the ban.”

 

The commissioner directed security operatives to ensure compliance with the directive, and also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working with relevant stakeholders that included the Ulama to ensuring compliance with the COVID-19 protocols.

Jealousy: second wife reportedly kills a 17 year old girl who husband had planned to marry in Kano

 

The police in Kano state have arrested a 20-year-old lady identified as Suwaiba Shuaibu, for stabbing to death a 17-year-old girl, Aisha Kabir, who her husband had planned to get married to on January 9.

A statement released by the spokesperson of the state police command, Abdullahi Haruna, says that on January 2, the father of the deceased, Kabiru Jafaru, of Gimawa Village, Doguwa Local government area reported that the body of his 17-year old daughter who got missing on January 1st, 2021, was found in an uncompleted building in their neighborhood. The distraught father told the police that his daughter was suspected to have been stabbed on her neck by her killer(s).

 

The police spokesperson said acting on the complaint, the scene was visited and the body was evacuated to Tudun Wada General Hospital for examination by a Medical Doctor. He said the Commissioner of Police Kano State command then raised and instructed a Team of Detectives, led by Divisional Police Officer Doguwa, CSP Bala Shuaibu, to arrest the culprit(s).

 

Haruna said the team immediately swung into action and apprehended 20-year-old Suwaiba Shuaibu, who lives in the same address with the deceased and is the second wife to one Shahrehu Alhaji Ali, also of the same address.

''Investigations revealed the Deceased and the Husband of the suspect have been in proposed relationship for over six years and their Wedding Ceremony was scheduled to hold on 9th January, 2021.

During interrogation, the suspect freely confessed she had called the victim on phone, deceived and lured her to an uncompleted building in their neighborhood where she used a sharp knife to stab her on her neck, chest and other parts of her body. She disclosed she killed the victim out of jealousy, because her husband proposed to marry her.''the statement read

 

Haruna said the case has been transferred to the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Homicide Section, for discrete investigation. He said the suspect will be charged to court at the completion of the investigation.

Nigerian popular Instagram comedian, Sydney Talker has allegedly proposed to Big Brother naija season 5 finalist, Rebecca ‘Nengi.

The social media skit-maker shared photos of the alleged proposal on his Instagram page, saying he proposed and she said yes.

Nengi also took to the comment section of his Sydney Talker’s post, gushing over the comedian.

She commented “mine” with love emojis, while the comedian replied with a kiss emoji.

However, while fans are of the opinion that the comedian might be planning a skit with the reality TV star, some have sent in their congratulatory messages to the duo, just in case it is for real.

War in the land as man finds out wife lied about being virgin on wedding night

 A newly wedded couple’s marriage is on the brink of collapse owing to a shocking revelation the woman made on their wedding night.

The couple reportedly got married first week in January and the bride all through their 3 years courtship told her man that there would be no sexual intimacy till marriage.

The lady made her man believe that she is a virgin but this, it was later discovered to be a false tale.

She maintained the lie up until their wedding day, when she informed her husband that she is not a virgin but that she was raped by her uncle few weeks before they met.

A Twitter user @akphies shared the story on the microblogging platform with the words;

”This couple got married just last weekend and the marriage is about to crash. They dated for 3 years and she insisted no sex until after marriage because she was a virgin. She confessed she wasn’t a virgin that night that she was raped by her uncle few weeks before they met.”

Woman, suspected to have stolen Nancy Pelosi's laptop during the Capitol siege so she could sell it to Russia has been charged

 A Pennsylvania woman charged in the January 6 riots at the US Capitol is now being investigated by the FBI over claims she stole a Laptop from the office of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and attempted to sell it in Russia.

Riley June Williams, 22, of Harrisburg, was charged on Sunday with entering a restricted building and disorderly conduct after she was captured in footage taking part in the riot. 

In a court affidavit detailing the allegations against her, FBI Agent John Lund said that a former romantic partner of Williams – identified only as W1 – had also come forward to tell the bureau she had stolen either a laptop or hard drive from Pelosi's office during the insurrection.

The witness told investigators that friends of Williams had played them a video that showed her stealing the device.

They further claimed that Williams, a care worker, then 'intended to send the computer device to a friend in Russia, who then planned to sell the device to SVR, Russia’s foreign intelligence service.’  

According to the witness, the plan fell through for unknown reasons and Williams is either still in possession of the device or has since destroyed it.

Lund writes: "The transfer of the computer device to Russia fell through for unknown reasons and Williams still has the computer device or destroyed it. 

"This matter remains under investigation."

 Williams has not yet been apprehended by police for those charges, with a warrant currently out for her arrest.

 It appears that WILLIAMS has fled,’ according to the affidavit, which was signed Sunday and posted publicly after 9 p.m. ‘According to local law enforcement officers in Harrisburg, WILLIAMS’ mother stated that WILLIAMS packed a bag and left her home and told her mother she would be gone for a couple of weeks. WILLIAMS did not provide her mother any information about her intended destination.’

 In video footage captured by British broadcaster ITV, Williams can be seen inside the Capitol, wearing a green T-shirt and brown trench coat, holding a zebra-print bag.

 She was heard repeatedly yelling, ‘Upstairs, upstairs, upstairs,’ as she directs other intruders to proceed up a staircase.

Speaking to investigators, Williams's mother reportedly identified her in the clip and said she had recently developed an interest in MAGA politics and begun using "far-right message boards".

 

A-Nigeria-Police sergeant allegedly arrested for armed robbery in Rivers state

 A police Sergeant, Ibrahim Odege, attached to the Operations Department of the Rivers State Police Command has been arrested over alleged involvement in armed robbery.

 Sergeant Odege was arrested alongside one Sampson Inomoghe,32, on Saturday night, for robbing residents of Elekahia Housing Estate in Port Harcourt.

It was gathered that the suspects entered the community with a motorcycle, robbed people of their valuables until one of the victims raised an alarm and all exit routes from the community were blocked, leading to their arrest.

 Spokesman of the State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, said operatives of the Elekahia Division responded to a distress call at the Elekahia Housing Estate around 10pm and arrested the two suspects, who were robbing people. 

Items recovered from the suspects included assorted mobile phones and a locally made Bareta pistol.

 

One of the victims, Mrs Doris Elechi, identified the suspects as the same persons that dispossessed her of her valuables.

 The PPRO said the suspects confessed to have carried out the robbery attack among other revelations.

 Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Mukan, has condemned the act and ordered the immediate transfer of suspects and exhibits to the State Criminal Investigation Department for investigation.

 He appealed to members of the public to increase their security consciousness and report any suspicious character and movement around them to the Police.
